Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil on Tuesday, Chinese state media said.
Scholz last met Xi in Beijing in April when the two discussed trade and the Ukraine war. Scholz has moved to pressure China to stop supplying Russia in the war with Ukraine.
Scholz’s three-party coalition collapsed last week and he faces a confidence vote in his government next month before a parliamentary election in February.
Germany, one of Beijing’s major trading and investment partners, voted against the European Union’s plan to impose punitive tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, with Germany’s position fuelling criticism in Brussels.
The biggest economic power in the EU is also facing an economic slowdown.
