Sitting President Joe Biden is standing by his vice president, Kamala Harris, following her election loss.
Two days after Republican Donald Trump was announced the winner in the race, and after hearing Harris’s impassioned concession speech, Biden shared a brief but movement statement on the matter.
“Vice President @KamalaHarris ran an inspiring campaign that allowed everyone to see something I learned early on: She has a backbone like a ramrod and great character. True character,” he wrote in a message shared on his social media accounts. “She gave her whole heart and effort, and she and her entire team should be proud.”
Biden was prepared to run for reelection this year against Trump, but after many calls from people within his own party to drop out of the race, he did so gracefully in July, and soon endorsed Harris.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” he shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) at the time.
“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my vice president. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats—it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” he added.
During the Biden-Harris administration, the duo made great strides toward progress for the nation in areas including immigration, climate change, the economy, and student loan forgiveness.
