Multiple LIV Golf players are in danger of missing the event in Hong Kong due to travel issues caused by the war in the Middle East.
According to a report from Tom Hobbs of Flushing It, eight LIV players were stuck in the Middle East and unable to continue traveling to Hong Kong due to airport closures amidst the conflict. Lee Westwood, Laurie Canter, Sam Horsfield, Adrian Meronk, Thomas Detry, Caleb Surratt, Tom McKibbin and Anirban Lahiri remain stuck in different locations in the Middle East while trying to get to Hong Kong.
The report continued, saying some players were scheduled to fly from Muscat airport in Oman to Thailand and then to Hong Kong, while others were on a direct flight from Dubai International Airport to Hong Kong.
Using flight-tracking data, as of 1 p.m. ET Tuesday, all flights from Dubai to Hong Kong were canceled into Wednesday morning, and there was one flight on the schedule from Muscat in Oman heading to Thailand with a departure at 9:05 a.m. Omani time, Wednesday morning. Hong Kong is four hours ahead of Oman and Dubai, and the normal flight time from Oman and Dubai to Hong Kong is roughly eight hours.
There is also a chance of LIV Golf trying to charter a flight for players, but that is also not a guarantee because of the conflict.
Golfweek reached out to LIV Golf to confirm plans if players aren’t able to make it to Hong Kong before Thursday’s first-round tee times, but a response wasn’t received before publishing.
Flushing It reported the league has plenty of alternates on standby or making their way to Hong Kong to complete the 57-player field if those with travel issues are unable to make it to Hong Kong.
