A woman is being advised to distance herself from a man with whom she’s been on two dates.

Raising concerns with her post on the community forum Mumsnet, the woman explained that the man recently asked her to lend him around $60 to fix his boiler because he was short of funds.

“After a second date? Is there ever a genuine reason for a man to ask to borrow money from you when you’ve only met twice?” she asked.

The woman wrote in a follow-up comment that the man couldn’t ask his parents for money because they were at a hospital appointment.

She added that his request seemed suspicious because people who live in rental properties don’t usually have to pay for repairs.

The comment section of the post was flooded with warnings not to continue dating the man or let him borrow any money.

“I’d almost feel embarrassed for him, who’d ask a second date to borrow money,” said one person. “That’s what credit cards and loans are for, I hope it’s your last date with him.”

“100% no,” another commented. “If he can’t pay for his boiler to be fixed then it suggests he either is very short of funds or can’t manage his finances. Failing that, he is a scammer and this is just the start of many such requests.”

A third person spoke candidly about their own dating experience, saying, “I’m recently dating a man who has just been made redundant, went out last night for his birthday and he still insisted on paying, wouldn’t let me get the bill, he even said he would understand if I didn’t want to date him anymore! I told him not to be daft and tough times happen to everyone! Asking to borrow money so soon is huge red flag!”

The woman revealed in a response to the commenters that she had decided not to go on another date with the man who was asking to borrow money.

“Thanks guys, for helping me see sense!” she wrote. “He tried canceling the next date as apparently he had his daughter, but I had a gut feeling he was lying, so I kicked him to the curb, £40 [$60] was a cheap price to pay to see him for what he was.”

“The love bombing was out of this world,” she added. “Obviously, I paid on the dates as he was skint halfway through the month😱.”
