The most valuable players in the Premier League have just changed as 543 stars received new market values in the latest Transfermarkt update. The division’s total value actually fell slightly by -€237.1 million, but the league’s value still stands at €12.53 billion – by the far the most valuable in the world. Among the biggest winners were Manchester City’s star striker Erling Haaland and Chelsea’s Brazilian wonderkid Estêvão. The Blues also went up the most in squad value, whilst by far the biggest downgrade to club value came for struggling Liverpool, who saw many superstars drop in the update.
Erling Haaland becomes the joint-most valuable player in the world
Haaland has spent the last three and a half seasons dismantling Premier League records. His latest feat saw him become the quickest ever player to reach 100 Premier League goals. The Norwegian has already scored 33 goals this season for club and country and is rewarded in this latest update with a +€20m upgrade to take him level with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal as the joint-most valuable player in the world at €200m. His manager Pep Guardiola recently said, “Erling was decisive. It’s a little like when you play with Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, the influence is so big.”
The 25-year-old striker is just the fourth player in Tranfermarkt history to hit €200m alongside Yamal, Kylian Mbappé (2018) and Vinicius Junior (2024). Ben Littlemore is Transfermarkt’s Premier League market value co-ordinator and explains Haaland’s latest rise: “After a disappointing season by his very high standards, Haaland has looked back to his prolific best this term. He has helped Norway qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1998 and already has one hand on the Premier League golden boot (16 goals in 15 games). Every team in the world would want Haaland – it feels right that he is the joint-world MVP at this moment in time.”

Alexander Isak & Florian Wirtz drop, as Liverpool stars pay price for bad form
No club saw their squad market value drop as much as Liverpool, with the Reds losing -€111.7m in total. Their squad does still remain worth €1.04b. The biggest losers from Arne Slot’s side were the two big-money summer signings. Striker Alexander Isak has scored just one Premier League goal to date and drops by -€20m to a new value of €120m, whilst playmaker Florian Wirtz, who has zero league goals and one assist so far drops by -€20m to a €110m market value. “It’s of course still early days, but it’s fair to say it’s been a nightmare start for both Isak and Wirtz,” explains Littlemore. “Isak had a disrupted pre-season but has struggled to adapt to the new team. He has undoubted quality so he can’t be discounted, and at €120m remains one of the most valuable strikers in the world.
“Wirtz is beginning to show glimpses of quality but his numbers are woeful so far for a player of his talent and one that demanded such a high fee. It also still seems unclear exactly his role in the team. Again, even at €110m he remains very valuable and at 22 years of age, time is on the German’s side.” The new stars weren’t the only Liverpool players to suffer major downgrades with Alexis Mac Allister (-€15m to €85m), Mohamed Salah (-€15m to €30m), and Jeremie Frimpong (-€7m to €38m) all on the end of big drops in value. There was also -€5m downgrades for each of Virgil van Dijk (new value: €18m), Milos Kerkez (€40m), Curtis Jones (€40m) and Ibrahima Konaté (€55m). No Liverpool player rose in value.

Estêvão becomes world’s second-most valuable teenager
Alongside Haaland, the joint-biggest winner from the update was Chelsea’s teenage sensation Estêvão. The 18-year-old received a +€20m increase to take his new market value to €80m, and make him the joint-second most valuable teenager in world football. Now only behind Barcelona’s Yamal (€200m). “Estêvão is probably the most exciting talent in the Premier League right now,” revealed Littlemore. “His performance against Barcelona in the Champions League outshone even Yamal, and everytime he has played for Chelsea, he has got fans off their seats.

“Enzo Maresca is understandably managing his minutes carefully at the moment and protecting him, but it seems inevitable he will be a future star at the Bridge. He has also been shining for Brazil – an amazing feat at just 18 years of age. Our Transfermarkt expert in São Paulo, Marcos Watts, believes he could be Carlo Ancelotti’s most important player at next summer’s World Cup.” Estêvão is now also the 14th most valuable player in the entire Premier League. The other biggest winners from the update were Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson (+€15m to €60m), Chelsea’s Reece James (+€15m to €50m), and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (+€13m to €35m).
William Saliba becomes most valuable defender, Bukayo Saka drops
Arsenal’s defensive record has been frightening this season – the Gunners have conceded just 10 goals in 21 games. And at the heart of that is their French centre-back William Saliba. The 24-year-old rises by +€10m to a new market value of €90m, which makes him not only the most valuable centre-back in the world, but the most valuable defender on the planet. “Saliba has looked back to his best this season,” says Littlemore. “It’s almost impossible getting around him and he is so composed on the ball. At 24, he is now entering his peak years and there is a huge market for him – almost any top side would be interested and he’s deserving of the title of the most valuable defender.”
At the other end of the scale for the Gunners, there was another major downgrade for Bukayo Saka, who dropped by -€10m to a new market value of €130m. “Saka’s performances have not been bad by any stretch,” says Littlemore. “But his numbers have been slightly underwhelming and he isn’t having quite as high of an effect on games as he has in the past. He certainly has the ability to rediscover that form and if he does, his value could go back up accordingly.” There was also a big drop for Ben White (-€8m to €30m), whilst as many as seven Arsenal players went down by -€5m.
Gianluigi Donnarumma becomes the most valuable keeper
Manchester City signed Champions League-winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for just €30m from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, and that is already looking like a real bargain. The Italian is still only 26 years old which is very young for a goalkeeper, and he receives a +€5m rise to take his new market value to €45m. That now makes the Sky Blues shot-stopper the outright most valuable keeper in world football. “There are still some doubts over Donnarumma’s ability with the ball at his feet, but his shot-stopping has been there for all to see,” explains Littlemore. “Right now, alongside David Raya he is the best keeper in the Premier League and he is four years Raya’s junior.”
The new Premier League top 10 MVPs
So how does the new top 10 list of the most valuable players in the Premier League look? Players on the same value are ranked by youngest first. Haaland of course leads the way on €200m. There is now a €70m-gap to second-placed Saka (€130m) which is the biggest that gap between first and second has ever been. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is now third having maintained his €120m valuation, followed by Arsenal’s Declan Rice in fourth – also remains at €120m.

Isak (€120m) is now sixth after his drop in value. Wirtz is down to sixth after his own drop saw his value fall to €110m. Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo is up to seventh after receiving another +€10m rise to take his value to €110m. There is then a €20m gap. Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch maintains his €90m valuation and takes eighth. Arsenal defender Saliba is now up to ninth after his +€10m rise to €90m, whilst Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitiké completes the top 10 on €85m.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
