MARYSVILLE, Ohio — A stretch of U.S. 33 between state Route 4 and U.S. 36 is closed in both directions through the evening commute after a crash involving a tanker truck caused diesel fuel to leak.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on the northeast side of Marysville, according to the Marysville Police Division.
Police say the tanker collided with another semitruck and a camper. The Marysville Fire Division reports that the collision created a hole in the tanker, causing diesel fuel to leak.
Fire crews were able to stop the flow of diesel from the tanker, but it’s unclear how much fuel was spilled.
Police say officials from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and specialized hazardous materials cleanup crews are at the scene. The crews are reportedly evaluating how much fuel was spilled into the highway median and they are coming up with a plan to clean it up.
There are no signs that any fuel got into any waterways, police say.
The westbound lanes of U.S. 33 at U.S. 42 and the eastbound lanes of U.S. 33 at U.S. 36/state Route 4 will be closed at least through 7 p.m.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
