The Coventry wheelchair racer, 24, won silver in the T34 400m in New Delhi as British teammate and long-term rival Hannah Cockroft grabbed a 17th global gold.
Adenegan, a seven-time Paralympic and now six-time world medallist, has barely raced this season as she has juggled her career on the track with a teaching qualification at a school.
She returned with a bang in the Indian capital and is encouraging other athletes to pursue their own interests away from their sport of choice.
“I’m happy with it – the main thing at the end of the season is to get a good performance in a championships,” she said.
“There are things I could have done better, I could have gone quicker but I’m happy to have another medal.
“I only started my season in July – it would have been good to have a couple more races, but it’s a World Championships and I didn’t want to miss it.
“It’s amazing to do other things – I think it’s important to recognise that athletes do all sorts of different things.
“It was great to be back competing.”
Adenegan is one of over 30 British athletes out in the Indian capital, with the team now sponsored by official finance partner Novuna.
She crossed the line in a time of 1:02.70 as Cockroft, a nine-time Paralympic champion, scorched to victory in splendid isolation with a time of 55.62s.
Adenegan will now turn her attention to both the 100m and 800m events, with the 100m getting underway on Wednesday.
She added: “I really enjoy the 400m – it’s nice to have it again and it’s great to have two more coming up.
“It’s good practice going into the next few races.”
