Hong Kong is often known as the Pearl of the Orient, and this title would not be out of place if you used it to refer to Regent Hotel in Hong Kong as well. The hotel has garnered numerous awards, including being named the number one Best City Hotel in Asia, and has been attracting hotel guests such as footballing stars like Ronaldo, who stayed on a recent visit to the special administrative region.

Hotel

The Regent Hong Kong has an excellent location close to luxury shops and cultural attractions

The hotel has had a fabled history since 1980, when it opened as one of the glamorous hotels in the territory. It was closed for a major three-year renovation in 2020 and the relaunched Regent opened on the 8th November 2023. The redesign is courtesy of renowned designer and architect Chi Wing Lo, who has delivered understated elegance in abundance. The reception counter is made of softly lit translucent onyx whilst the background wall includes a 15-metre-long digital art LED screen showing soothing artwork.

The location is unbeatable in terms of convenience, being next to the K11 MUSEA shopping centre and the Avenue of Stars. The building has the best views of Hong Kong Island that any hotel or building can offer and the lighting has been cleverly designed to minimise reflections on the window, so guests can admire the scintillating views of the vibrant city without interruptions.

Spacious rooms and suites have a contemporary décor with luxe touches

With 497 rooms, this five-star flagship property is one of the more spacious offerings in Hong Kong with entry-level classic rooms starting at 30-38 sqm, whilst the suites start from 47 sqm, and their stupendous presidential suite has a commodious 650 sqm of space. It is definitely worth spending more to book a harbour view room rather than having a Kowloon view room.

The standout in the design is their window front daybed. You can relax in their nook with an engrossing book and have the Hong Kong skyline as your backdrop. In their signature Oasis bathroom, they offer an immersive bathtub with a separate rainfall shower, and you can expect double vanities with high-end Perricone MD amenities. It is a particularly welcome touch when they drop you off some Perricone MD face moisturiser during turn-down.

This exclusive sanctuary on the second floor is for VIP guests to escape the hustle and bustle of urban life and they offer complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapes along with a refined drinks menu. Expect to see treats like cheese and charcuterie boards and dim sum baskets.

Their various dining outlets offer a gastronomic experience of the highest order. The two-Michelin-starred Lai Ching Heen offers modern Cantonese food that is accessible for both a local audience and Western tourists. Their tea tasting menu is particularly recommended – you can speak with their tea sommelier, and he can speak from personal experience about his trip to Wuyi Mountain to see how the tea leaves are gathered. Dishes are exquisitely thought out and prepared, you might see dishes like steamed crystal blue prawn dumplings flavoured with purple bud camellia tea.

If you are looking for exceptional cocktails along with small bites, the place to visit is Qura Bar. They’ve collected exceptional, rare spirits like Armagnacs from the 1970s and their exotic cocktails have ingredients you will rarely find at other bars, such as the framed emotion with carob tea, whey, and pomelo. It might be called a bar, but the dishes are no less refined, with indulgent dishes like lobster choux and a mini wagyu Rossini burger.

Finally, they’ve paired up with renowned chocolate brand, Lavoratti, along with Moët Hennessy to offer the finest of afternoon teas in their lobby lounge. Your taste buds will be enticed by blood orange Lavoratti frozen gelato bonbons. Their finger sandwiches are carefully curated with the likes of smoked trout, avocado guacamole and olive pearls.
