The UK Government will test the Emergency Alerts system today.
While the alert is just a test, the Government is set to use the system to issue warnings and advice in an emergency situation.
Mobile phones and tablets will “make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent.”
Devices will also vibrate and read out an alert.
The siren and vibration will last for about 10 seconds.
Real emergencies that would prompt one of the alerts include: wildfires, severe flooding, extreme storms and other life-threatening situations that may be in progress nearby.
