Florida Highway Patrol said a man accused of causing the crash was arrested after troopers determined he had a BAC of 0.089.
HOLIDAY, Fla. — A man has been arrested after his 8-month-old child was killed in a crash on U.S. 19 in Pasco County early Saturday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said around 1:36 a.m., a 32-year-old Clearwater man driving a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on U.S. 19 in Holiday when he “overtook” an Audi sedan, which was “slowing or stopped for other traffic just north of Flora Avenue.”
Troopers said the Clearwater man failed to slow down and stop, and as a result, rear-ended the Audi.
According to FHP, the 8-month-old was the son of the man driving the Chevy. FHP said the child was in a car seat, yet suffered serious injuries in the crash. They were taken to the hospital afterward where they died, troopers said.
Troopers arrested the driver of the Chevy, identified by FHP as Antonio Bravo, after they determined he was impaired with a BAC of 0.089.
FHP did not say if the driver of the Audi suffered any injuries in the crash nor release their identity. However, a report on the crash from FHP states the driver is a 27-year-old Gibsonton man.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said they and Pasco County Fire Rescue assisted FHP with the crash, adding that it shut down all southbound lanes of U.S. 19 temporarily.
