Following the semi-finals exit at women’s Euro 2025, the Germany national team have a lot to look forward to in the future, including the 2027 World Cup.
Germany is also planning to bid to host Euro 2029 and the German Football Federation (DFB) can take a lot of momentum from the performance in Switzerland.
The next sporting challenge
Following the defeat to Spain, Germany coach Christian Wück won’t see his players again until the European fall.
The first leg of the Nations League semi-final against France is scheduled for October 24, followed by the second leg four days later. The venues have not yet been decided.
The final and third-place matches are scheduled for November 28 and December 2, also with first and second legs. Spain and Sweden will contest the other semi-final clash.
“We can show again that we are on the same level as the other three teams who have qualified,” DFB sporting director Nia Künzer said.
The next major tournament, the World Cup in 2027, won’t take place until 2027.
The future of the Germany squad
After the semi-final exit in Zurich, none of the older German players have spoken about their personal future.
It remains to be seen whether, Sara Däbritz (30) and Kathrin Hendrich (33) will be available for the World Cup.
Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger has recently left questions about her future unanswered. However, the 34-year-old is considered a late bloomer in the national team and currently has little competition.
In the future, Wück can rely on talents such as Franziska Kett and Carlotta Wamser, who played a strong Euro 2025 as newcomers. They will be joined by a number of young but experienced players such as Jule Brand and Klara Bühl.
The bid to host Euro 2029
In December, the UEFA executive committee will appoint the host for the 2029 women’s European championship.
In addition to the Germany, Poland, Italy, Portugal and a joint bid from Denmark and Sweden are among the candidates.
In Germany, the planned host cities are Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Wolfsburg.
Upcoming highlights on club level
Bundesliga and German Cup winners Bayern Munich will face runners-up VfL Wolfsburg in the Supercup on August 30 and fans will be able to see some of the players who played at the Euros.
Bayern will open the new Bundesliga season for the first time at the Allianz Arena on September 6 against Bayer Leverkusen.
