A mother and daughter were heading out for a family dinner when a fashion faux pas turned their evening into an unexpected comedy show.
Samantha Berke (@theprettyaverage___), 23, a marketing coordinator from Atlanta, Georgia, had been helping her mom decide which shoes to wear for their outing. To compare, her mom put a different shoe on each foot. In the chaos of getting ready, she walked out the door, still wearing one of each.
The women broke out into fits of laughter when they realized she had forgotten to change into a matching pair. Their video documenting the moment racked up more than 219,100 likes and nearly 2 million views on TikTok.
“We were getting ready for dinner, and my mom came into my room, wearing both pairs of shoes. She asked me the simple question, ‘Which shoe do you like better?’ I pointed to a pair, and she never changed the other shoe,” Samantha told Newsweek.
In the video, her mom, Amy Berke, is hunched over, laughing uncontrollably while Samantha pans the camera down to reveal her mismatched footwear—on one foot, a strappy tie-up sandal; and, on the other, a buckled slip-on sandal.

Samantha said that the clip was taken during a beach trip to Florida in early June. The pair were outside The Red Bar in Grayton Beach, waiting for their table, when the moment unfolded.
Samantha had told her mom she liked the left shoe (Amy’s right foot) better, the tie-up sandal, and assumed she would switch out the other one. But the mishap went unnoticed until later.
“We were waiting outside for our table. I asked my mom to take a picture of me and my boyfriend, and, as I was giving her my phone, I looked down and realized she was wearing two pairs! I immediately recorded our reactions because we were crying laughing. It was just so funny!” Samantha said.
The footage quickly took off online. “Obviously, I got so much traction on the video,” Samantha added. “It has nearly 2 million views, 220,000 likes, and so many comments from brands such as Sally Hansen, Applebee’s, Bloom Nutrition and so many more.”
She added: “I’m so happy that so many people got to laugh along to this hilarious moment with my amazing mom!”
The wholesome moment resonated with viewers, many of whom shared similar experiences in the comments.
“I did this once as a teen with two similar boots and I called my mom crying in the Walmart and she brought me one of the other boots…… I fully hid in the fishing aisle lmao [laughing my a** off], she’s handling it much better,” posted Rockie.
“I’VE DONE THIS and gone on a whole grocery trip in costco lmao whoopsie: 3 was a good lesson in that little stuff like this doesn’t matter and if anything I gave someone a giggle,” commented another user.
“I did this with one slipper and one shoe in a grocery store once! I remember almost leaving in slippers, catching myself to change, then getting distracted on the way out. Postpartum fog is no joke!” shared a third.
