President Donald Trump has nominated Dunlap to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston.
AUGUSTA, Maine — Joshua Dunlap, an attorney from Scarborough, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston.
Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who announced the nomination on Wednesday, noted that Dunlap was among the top candidates recommended by the Federal Appointments Advisory Committee.
Dunlap currently serves as a partner at Pierce Atwood LLP, where he co-chairs the firm’s Appellate & Amici team, according to the firm’s website. He has practiced there for over fifteen years, focusing on civil litigation at both the trial and appellate levels.
He also serves as chair of the Maine Appellate Rules Committee, an appointment made by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
Dunlap is a former law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, according to the website, and is admitted to multiple courts of appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Mr. Joshua Dunlap was a top candidate recommended by my Federal Appointments Advisory Committee for this important position,” Collins said in a statement. “His wealth of appellate experience, along with his intelligence and temperament, make him an excellent choice to serve on the federal bench… I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to swiftly confirm Mr. Dunlap.”
Dunlap earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Dunlap would join the First Circuit, which is based in Boston and hears appeals from federal courts in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico, and Rhode Island.
