Living Bay Shore, a clothing and home decor boutique, is a hub of creativity for its owner, Susan Tamberino.
The interior designer by trade and former Fashion Institute of Technology student loves all things “aesthetically pleasing, elevated, classy and beautiful.”
With a knack for design and fashion, Tamberino opened her first boutique, Living, in Cold Spring Harbor in 2010. The shop sold high-end clothing and jewelry.
She opened a second, larger location in her current place of residence, Bay Shore, in May 2023. She decided to close the Cold Spring Harbor location in February to focus on her latest venture.
“I came to love retail after running a store, and I always wanted to come back home to Bay Shore,” she says.
She has since made the seaside hamlet her fashion headquarters and runs an interior design business, Samhal Life Design Group, at 126 E. Main Street.
The boutique offers a range of clothing items, including elevated basics, occasion wear, resort wear, jackets, denim, dresses and intimates.
Living Bay Shore has become a home base for work, play and support for Tamberino’s close friends, family and local artisans.
One of Tamberino’s three daughters, Amanda, an artist residing in Puerto Rico, has her paintings and sketches framed and on canvas for sale in the store, with the largest being a canvas of a woman boxing.
Her best friend of 40 years, Denise DeMott, has worked at Living Bay Shore since the shop’s inception as the store manager. DeMott’s daughter, Hailey, is an assistant manager and buyer.
The boutique hopes to encourage local artisans to sell their creations in the space.
Those looking for jewelry and accessories can browse the collections created by artists, including Fire Island-based jewelry brand Sweetpeas & Gypsies.
Shoppers will also find pieces by Huntington native Christina V. Sheldon, who owns Christina V., selling handmade 24-karat gold-filled earrings, necklaces, bracelets, chains and charms.
The shop utilizes social-media platforms like Instagram to showcase the latest clothes and accessories and demonstrate how to mix and match the items.
Home decor items for sale include rugs, throw pillows and blankets starting at $45. The shop also sells smaller home decor pieces that range from $20 to $120, as well as mugs starting at $20.
