Fiorentina have asked for permission to play their Conference League play-off at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium, as the Stadio Franchi is still undergoing restructuring work.

The Viola have qualified for this UEFA tournament for the fourth year in a row, having reached the Final twice, then the semi-final.

They need to get through a play-off round on August 21 and 28, with one of those legs played at home.

It hasn’t been much of an advantage for them playing at the Stadio Franchi recently, as the capacity is severely limited by reconstruction work.

With this in mind, La Gazzetta dello Sport note that they have asked permission from both UEFA and Sassuolo to shift their home leg over to the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia instead.

They have already been allowed to schedule the first two Serie A rounds of the season away from home, specifically in Cagliari on August 24 and Torino on August 31.

The work will have to continue for a lot longer, aiming to get the new Curva Fiesole open for the stadium’s centenary in June 2026.

Having the construction undisturbed for four consecutive months without having to host games can give them a head start to meet that deadline.
