Recently published data from Police.UK has revealed which of the police forces in the UK have the quickest 101 call wait time, with some taking up to two minutes to triage a phone call.

101 is the non-emergency contact number for police across the UK, and since the start of the year Cambridgeshire Police has received more than 70,000 101 calls.

While the average national wait time is 32 seconds, Cambridgeshire Police has clocked an impressive four second average wait time for triage.

In January 2025 the force received 18,276 101 calls and had an average call wait time of one second.

It was the seventh quickest force in the UK.

For comparison, neighbouring police force Bedfordshire Police had fewer 101 calls – 12,889 – with an average wait time of one minute and 57 seconds.

In both February and March Cambridgeshire Police maintained its one second wait time.

It was the sixth quickest force in February with 16,374 101 calls.

In March, the force was the fourth quickest in the UK with 18,306 calls.

Cambridgeshire Police has worked to improve contact management, a spokesperson said.

“Locally, we have been implementing steps behind the scenes to improve our contact management, including the introduction of a new web chat system, upgrades to our technology, an increase in staff training, an uplift in recruitment, as well as increased promotion of our online reporting methods.”, they added.
