As reported by the South China Morning Post, the yuan’s potential to expand its global footprint is being explored by international businesses, particularly in Qatar. The affluent Middle Eastern nation is showing interest in diversifying its financial dealings by leveraging the yuan, facilitated by Hong Kong’s robust financial infrastructure.

Mary Huen Wai-yi, chairwoman of the Hong Kong Association of Banks, highlighted the keen interest of Qatar’s business community in utilizing the yuan for joint ventures and other investments. The Hong Kong financial sector offers a comprehensive suite of services, including settlement, payment, hedging, and swaps, which are appealing to businesses looking to diversify away from the US dollar.
