A large glowing spiral was visible in the night sky above the UK on Monday, perplexing stargazers before fading from view.
At about 8pm, a mysterious shape was spotted above Britain, Ireland and parts of mainland Europe. Experts have said it was probably caused by a fuel dump from a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that launched in Florida on Monday afternoon, carrying a “national security payload to orbit” on a classified mission.
The rocket released fuel, which froze because of the altitude and formed a spiral pattern because of the rocket’s movement. It was visible to the naked eye thanks to sunlight reflecting off it.
