£90m Premier League player ‘very open’ to joining Chelsea

Chelsea FC v Paris Saint-Germain: Final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025

On the back of their Club World Cup success, expectations around Chelsea are now sky high. Everybody seems to have forgotten that this is the same team that was struggling for results and looking likely to miss out on a top five spot just a couple of months ago. That’s how quickly opinions can change in football.

Now, they are being considered Premier League contenders going into next season. And if Joao Pedro continues the form that he showed at the Club World Cup, while Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens do well, there is every reason to believe that the Blues can put up a challenge.

On the other hand, there is an expectation that more signings could be made over the coming weeks. Morgan Rogers is someone who has been constantly linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.

According to Simon Phillips (via Football FanCast), Rogers is very open to joining Chelsea. But he isn’t actively pursuing a move away from Aston Villa.

In the past, it is believed that Aston Villa wanted in the region of £90 million to part ways with Rogers. He is a brilliant player, no doubt, but that figure seems a bit unrealistic at this point in time.

One can only hope that there is room for negotiation on the transfer fee. There could very well considering Aston Villa’s need to balance the books this summer.

Also, it would be interesting to see where someone like Rogers fits in, if Chelsea do end up signing him. There is no clear and obvious starting spot for him in the team, considering they already have Cole Palmer. So, it would be a puzzle that Enzo Maresca would need to solve. But that’s getting too far ahead of ourselves.
