More than 90 per cent of tickets for the “biggest-ever” Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament have been snapped up, the organiser has said, as he gears up for the mega-event at Kai Tak Sports Park.
Bryan Rennie, executive director of commercial and business operations at Hong Kong China Rugby, said on Wednesday that this year’s tournament would be the city’s “biggest ever” with a record number of more than 43,000 tickets sold, eclipsing the 40,000 capacity of the Hong Kong stadium, the events former venue.
The event is set to be held from March 28 to 30 at the new 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium.
The Post learned that tickets were still available for fixtures on Friday and Saturday but sold out for those on Sunday.
“This indicates a three-day audience of over 130,000,” Rennie said. “With our stadium built, our full capacity is 47,000, so to date, we have sold over 90 per cent of the capacity. All of our corporate suites and boxes are sold, which is fantastic.”
Asked whether the union was confident that the capacity for the venue could be maxed out when the event started on Friday, Rennie stated he would continue to monitor the ticket sales.
