Residents have snapped up 8,500 tickets for the opening ceremony of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park in just 30 minutes.
More than 20,000 residents interested in buying tickets were told they had to wait for up to two hours when online sales began at 10am on Friday, according to ticketing platform Urbtix.
But after 15 minutes, only about 300 tickets were left, a Post reporter found.
As of 10.22am, the reporter could not buy a ticket and at around 10.35am, the platform said all tickets were sold out.
The event’s opening ceremony will feature performers such as Hong Kong action movie star Donnie Yen, Cantopop idols Joey Yung, Gin Lee and Michael “MC” Cheung Tin-fu, veteran singers George Lam Tsz-cheung and Sally Yeh Chen-ven, as well as mainland Chinese celebrity Li Yuchun, aka Chris Lee.
Hong Kong Olympic gold medal fencer Vivian Kong Man-wai, badminton duo Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet and table tennis player Doo Hoi-kem are also among the line-up, along with table tennis champion Fan Zhendong of the national team and badminton legend Lin Dan.
