Good health in 2025: Most of us are guilty of making certain lifestyle choices that harm our health in the long run, making us suffer from diseases and ailments that need lifelong care and medication. In order to avoid that, doctors advise making simple changes to your regular routine, in the form of consumption of a proper diet, taking good rest every night, exercising every day, and staying away from electronic devices to do a digital detox for a few hours daily. The new year offers a chance to begin anew, leaving behind old habits and mistakes of the past years. It is a clean slate that provides one with the opportunity to still adopt healthy lifestyle habits, by immediately discontinuing old habits that did more harm than good.

As we step into 2025, it is imperative to reflect on our daily habits and identify areas that may be harming our health. With an increasing awareness of wellness and self-care, it is time to break-free from unhealthy practices that can have long-term consequences on our physical and mental well-being. Many of us may have unknowingly engaged in habits that led to chronic diseases, fatigue, and decreased productivity. By recognising and abandoning these unhealthy practices, we can take the first step towards a healthier, happier life.

Unhealthy Practices That You Must Discontinue In 2025

Here are seven unhealthy practices that you should immediately stop following in 2025 for your overall health.

unhealthy lifestyle habits to discontinue in 2025

  1. Consuming excessive sugar: This is a vice that many people have. But, high sugar intake can lead to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Limit your daily sugar intake to less than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) and opt for natural sources like fruits and vegetables.
  2. Ignoring sleep schedule: Another no-brainer, poor sleep habits can disrupt your body’s internal clock, leading to fatigue, mood disorders, and weakened immune system. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night and establish a consistent sleep pattern.
  3. Skipping breakfast: A big dietary mistake, skipping breakfast can lead to nutrient deficiencies, low energy, and overeating later in the day. Start your day with a balanced breakfast that includes protein, whole grains, and healthy fats.
  4. Using electronic devices before bedtime: Pre-bedtime use of phones and laptops can be harmful. It is a habit that one must leave behind in 2024. The blue light emitted from electronic devices can interfere with your sleep patterns and make it difficult to fall asleep. Avoid using electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime and opt for relaxing activities like reading or meditation.
  5. Not staying hydrated: Inadequate hydration (water and other fluid intake) can lead to headaches, fatigue, and digestive problems. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water each day and limit your intake of sugary drinks.
  6. Sitting for long periods: Prolonged sitting can increase your risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Take regular breaks to stand up, stretch, move around, and aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day, regardless of the weather.
  7. Not managing stress: Chronic stress can lead to anxiety, depression, and a weakened immune system. In 2025, start practising stress-reducing techniques like deep breathing, yoga, or meditation, and take breaks throughout the day to relax and recharge, if you have not been doing it already.
