Packed with basic white T-shirts and plain black trousers, my capsule wardrobe illustrates the epitome of minimalist fashion. But with sun-filled days on the horizon, I’m on a mission to brighten up my rotation of warm-weather outfits with a variety of playful yet polished color combinations.
While studying the street style set for inspiration, I noticed a city dweller wearing a pear green maxi dress paired with a variety of silver accessories. Another person combined an indigo blue top and matching Bermuda shorts with a designer handbag in a vibrant shade of cherry red. (If I had to guess, I’d say this saturated outfit was inspired by Prada’s Spring 2025 runway, where the exact same color combo was splattered across a handful of delectable shirt sandwiches.) Of course, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I also spotted several summer color trends, including cheerful tints of butter yellow and powder pink.
What I love most about the color schemes I discovered is that they’re actually approachable. While some of the pairings may be a bit unconventional, they’re surprisingly harmonious. So, if you’re ready to give your neutral-toned ensembles a break this season, scroll on for a curated edit of color combinations that will help you do just that. You’ll find a range of radiant outfit formulas for practically any summer occasion—from flowy dresses and linen blazers for days in the office to sleeveless tops and baggy jeans for nights on the town.
Indigo Blue and Cherry Red
Wondering how to elevate a relaxed denim outfit? Red accessories will do the trick.

For a casual look, go for a pair of Bermuda shorts that exude a laid-back appeal. Coordinate your knee-length bottoms with a matching denim top for a refined Canadian tuxedo, and complete the double-denim ensemble with a fiery red handbag.
Powder Pink and Sand Beige
Look no further for your new favorite work outfit.

Enliven your summer corporate style with this prim-and-proper uniform doused in powder pink. As seen above, this dainty hue will pair perfectly with beige, so reach for a sand-colored blazer and a sophisticated shoulder bag that will take you from your desk to post-work drinks.
Scarlet Red and Mustard Yellow
This season, make a statement with gingham prints aplenty.

Move over, florals! Gingham is quickly becoming fashion’s favorite summer pattern. To embrace the print, I recommend recreating this look (which resembles a checkered picnic blanket in the best way possible). Complete with mustard yellow ballet flats and a white poplin skirt, this eye-catching outfit will earn you endless praise.
Butter Yellow and Sky Blue
What’s better than one trending color? Two!

Both butter yellow and sky blue have become cherished hues within the designer community. During the Spring 2025 fashion week circuit, these pastel shades took center stage on the runways of Chanel, Chloé, and Jason Wu. So, it’s no wonder both shades have trickled down into the street style scene. Follow suit by slipping into the going-out getup below.
Who knew green and silver could make such a great match.

While undoubtedly polarizing, this blend makes sense in a way that I can’t quite explain. If you’re a streamlined dresser like me, choose a simple green dress and silver accessories that are not too intimidating (like tiny hoops and strappy sandals).
Peony Pink and Rose Red
Although pink and red aren’t technically complimentary on the color wheel, they sure look like it.

‘Tis the season to look like a brilliant bouquet of fresh flowers. For your next warm-weather outing, slip on a slinky pink dress and complement your elegant look with trendy red Adidas sneakers and a spirited handbag.
Banana Cream and Mocha Mousse Brown
Here’s a pared-down alternative for those who are hesitant to experiment with animated colors.

If you’re strongly opposed to vibrant hues, don’t worry. I’ve curated this outfit just for you. Defined by subtle shades like banana cream and mocha mousse brown, this look will earn a stamp of approval from any dedicated minimalist.
