G-Dragon, the “king of K-pop”, is bringing his “Ubermensch” world tour to Hong Kong this weekend, with three performances at AsiaWorld-Expo from August 8 to 10.

The tour – his first in eight years – kicked off in South Korea earlier this year and has already made stops in Japan, the Philippines, Macau, Malaysia, Taiwan and Indonesia. This weekend’s shows will mark the first time the singer has been back in the city since 2017.

The return of G-Dragon, born Kwon Ji-yong, follows the release of his third studio album, Ubermensch, his first musical release since 2017’s Kwon Ji-yong. The album debuted at No 2 on Circle Chart, a Korean ranking platform, selling 440,000 copies in its first week.

The Ubermensch tour marks the singer’s official solo comeback. He has, until now, been focusing on producing music for other artists, working on special collaborations and being an ambassador for brands like Chanel and Gentle Monster.

G-Dragon, who has been performing since he was a young child, is a household name in Korea and has fans that span generations.

Tickets are always so challenging. Even when fans use multiple platforms and devices, we usually have to use VPNs that wouldn’t even end up preventing the entire system from crashing. I think this time they were all gone within 10 minutes,” recalls Zhu Guan-ming, a fan who resorted to buying seats via separate ticketing agencies at a higher price.
