According to Dimsum Daily, weddings in Hong Kong’s elite circles often serve as occasions for wealthy families to publicly showcase their status. These events are carefully planned to reflect not just the couple’s tastes but their families’ prestige and accomplishments.
Below are four weddings of Hong Kong tycoons’ heirs known for their extravagant, multi-million dollar celebrations, according to the South China Morning Post.
1. Martin Lee and Cathy Chui

Lee, the son of Hong Kong’s second-richest man Lee Shau Kee, married Chui, an actresss, in what local media dubbed “the wedding of the century,” reportedly costing around HK$100 million (US$12.8 million).
Held in 2006 at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens overlooking the Opera House, the event was planned by Hollywood party organizer Colin Cowie. Chui wore a 50-carat diamond necklace and a five-carat diamond wedding ring gifted by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka Shing.
“I saw a princess wearing this style,” said Chui. “I drew a sketch and he [Lee Ka Shing] got it made.”
There were allegations that Lee Shau Kee gifted Chui’s family wedding presents worth HK$400 million.
Chui, now 43, is renowned for her roles in the 2000 films “Time and Tide” and “When a Man Loves a Woman,” as well as the 2001 film “The Saving Hands.”
Lee, 54, currently serves as co-vice chairman and co-chief executive officer of Henderson Land Development alongside his elder brother Peter, who manages operations in China. Lee oversees the Hong Kong business, including the gas sector.
As of February, Forbes listed Lee Shau Kee as Hong Kong’s second-richest man with a net worth of US$29.2 billion. According to AFP, Lee Shau Kee passed away at age 97 on March 17, as announced by Henderson Land Development.
2. Julian Hui and Michele Reis

Hui, son of real estate magnate Hui Sai Fun, married actress and 1988 Miss Hong Kong winner Michele Reis in a private ceremony in 2008. Held at Hui’s seaside mansion in Shek O, Hong Kong, the intimate event reportedly cost HK$100 million and was attended only by close family and friends. Afterward, a spokesperson for the couple distributed red packets containing HK$1,000 each to members of the media.
Reis, now 55, gained international acclaim through her acting career, most notably with her role in Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai’s “Fallen Angels.” Although her on-screen appearances have decreased since the early 2000s, she continues to attract significant public attention.
Hui, 63, comes from one of Hong Kong’s wealthiest families. His father Hui Sai Fun was listed among Forbes’ 50 richest individuals in Hong Kong until his passing in 2018. Hui reportedly inherited a fortune estimated at HK$40 billion and currently oversees the family business.
Before marrying Reis, Hui was engaged to actress Carina Lau. He was previously married to Pansy Ho, daughter of casino tycoon Stanley Ho, from 1991 until their separation in 2000.
3. Kenneth Fok and Guo Jingjing

Fok, son of business magnate Timothy Fok, married Chinese Olympic diver Guo Jingjing in 2012, in a lavish ceremony reportedly costing HK$15 million.
Chinese newspaper People’s Daily reported that the couple held three banquets: one at the Fok family’s renowned “Stone Mansion” home in Hong Kong, another at the Nansha Hotel in Guangzhou, China, and a third at the Hong Kong Exhibition Center.
The guest list featured prominent figures from the sports, business, and entertainment worlds, including Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang, badminton champion Lin Dan, and Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka Shing.
Guo, now 44, is a celebrated four-time Olympic gold medalist. Fok, 46, is vice president of the Fok Ying Tung Group, involved in real estate, infrastructure, finance, transportation, hotels, and tourism. He also serves as vice president of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong.
His father Timothy Fok, 79, is president of the Hong Kong Football Association and represents the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture, and Publication constituency in Hong Kong’s Legislative Council.
4. Laurinda Ho and Shawn Dou

Ho married Dou in 2023 at the Six Senses Uluwatu Bali hotel in a luxurious two-day event attended by over 100 guests and costing an estimated HK$50 million. To ensure privacy, the couple hired 120 security guards for the ceremony.
For the occasion, Ho wore a custom Vera Wang dress complemented by exquisite Graff jewelry and a special pink diamond engagement ring gifted by Dou. Wedding guests received luxurious gifts, including high-end skincare products, chocolates, and cologne.
Ho, 34, is a socialite and businesswoman. Her mother Ina Chan has an estimated net worth of around US$1 billion according to Forbes.
Her late father Stanley Ho was a legendary Hong Kong tycoon who founded and managed SJM Holdings, operating 19 casinos in Macau, including the iconic Grand Lisboa. Throughout his life, he played a crucial role in Macau’s political, economic, and philanthropic circles, with extensive business interests spanning real estate, transportation, hotels, tourism, and gaming.
Stanley Ho, who had four wives and 17 children, passed away in 2020. A 2024 Bloomberg report estimated his family’s net worth at US$13 billion.
Dou, 37, rose to prominence with his debut in Chinese director Zhang Yimou’s “Under the Hawthorn Tree” and has since starred in notable films including “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Time To Love,” and “Princess Agents.”
