Local 4H members showed off their fashion taste and style to the county Tuesday afternoon. Children and teens competed in several categories from casual to formal, even showing off some of their own creations.
As part of the Shopping in Style category, which is meant to teach decision-making skills as well as confidence, personal hygiene and skills in how to dress appropriately, participants were asked to model two outfits in two different categories.
Some of these garments could be handmade, but the majority of them were purchased by participants for their categories. Categories included girls and boys casual, girls and boys formal and girls and boys dressy. Participants ranged from as young as seven-years-old to 18-years-old.
“I really like to shop and find cute clothes that are like me,” Claira Fischer, who said her older sister was her style inspiration, said. “It’s kind of nervewrecking to walk in front of everyone but I like to talk to the judge about my clothes.”
Fischer wore a black jumpsuit with a green blazer and gold shoes in the Level III Business category.
“I picked something that I could wear for interviews, school events, anything dressy,” she said.
Each 4H’er got up on stage in their outfit, showing off each their specially curated ensembles. From dresses for formals, to professional outfits, to pj bottoms with a matching pillowcase, this fashion show had it all.
“I really liked putting the outfit together and showing my style through fashion. It was really fun,” Brogan Vogsts said.
Vogst wore a Western-inspired dress, a chunky turquoise belt and tan cowboy boots for the Level II, Dressy category which earned her an award.
“I knew I wanted something bright and Western so I picked red and turquoise because I love turquoise and red’s a great color to go with it,” she said.
4H’ers were able to receive ribbons and awards for their participation in the show.
