What is fashion? It’s making a statement about who you are. It’s accomplished through clothing, jewelry, accessories like shoes and hats, hairdos, tattoos, and other visual details that make a person unique. Country music stars have this technique down pat. They use every tool at their disposal to set themselves apart and be memorable. These stars want to grab your attention and keep it. They can wow a room or stadium with just an outfit. We examine the style choices of four ladies of country music who are masters of fashion and chic.
Lainey Wilson
Wilson is a true genius in this category. She succeeds in looking boldly Western and yet feminine at the same time. Every time I see pics of her, she seems exquisitely pulled together. That is the secret of style. Think of other noted fashion legends like Princess Diana and before her, Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly. They all had that special knack. Their sartorial standard was classic, elegant, and timeless.
Wilson reminds me of them. Her outfits suit her perfectly. She changes it up too. Sometimes it’s with a tasteful plunging neckline or an evening look. This singer always adds the right touch of sparkle. Her home reflects that same style savvy as well. Wilson has her own jewelry line that features loads of beautiful Western-inspired turquoise and silver.
Miranda Lambert
If you have heard Lambert’s revenge songs like “White Liar” and “Gunpowder & Lead,” you know this is not a bashful woman. Her wardrobe reflects her self-assertion. For example, Lambert rocked a fabulous fuchsia jacket at the ACM Awards this year. (She was doing a scintillating duet with Ella Langley on “Kerosene.”) There was fringe on both her sleeves and a coordinating fuchsia motif on the side of each jeans leg. Then Lambert wore a teeny little denim mini skirt with a sky-high hemline for a concert. Gotta love that gal!
Dolly Parton
Parton is a queen of country music and of fashion too. Her long, layered blonde hair. glittering ensembles, and towering stilettos are among her trademarks. Nothing is meek about her style. When she is on stage, you know it. It’s drama and flamboyance all the way. full speed ahead. Sometimes Parton indulges in frilly excess, but on her, it always looks great. She knows precisely who she is and she expertly plays to that.
Carrie Underwood
Underwood knows exactly how to present herself. After twenty years in the limelight since she won American Idol, this megastar understands the authority of a wardrobe choice. When Underwood sang “How Great Thou Art” at the 2011 ACM Girls Night Out, she wore a shimmering silver mini dress that fit her like a glove. It was chic enough to command attention but not steal the spotlight. Another time, she did a duet with Steven Tyler at the 46th ACM Awards. Her flirty black costume and ankle boots were phenomenal. Add the black fingerless gloves Underwood wore and you have a powerhouse fashion moment.
