4 common fashion myths you might believe

women at home - fashion myths...

Once you’re in your forties, fashion changes. You’re not sure if you can pull of the latest trends, but you also don’t want to dress older than you are. KSL Lifestyle Contributor Daylan Dove said you might be overthinking it. She simplified fashion over forty, and debunked some myths you might believe.

Daylan emphasized that women over 40 can wear trends! But, she recommended editing them just a little bit.

“Incorporate a classic with a trend,” she explained. “So if something feels too trendy, you’ve got too many trends going on at once.”

She recommended going for classic pieces all over and just picking one trend to highlight that is elevated and comfortable.

“If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t do it,” Daylan emphasized.

Winter Whites

You are allowed to wear white after Labor Day!

“I still hear people saying, ‘I can’t wear that, it’s white,’” Daylan said, “Winter white. Here’s your permission. Please do it.”

She explained that a stark white can feel like too much in the winter, but creams and neutrals play well. She also suggested going monochromatic with winter whites.

Leather

“If you think leather is too edgy for you sister, you are wrong!” Daylan said.

She emphasized treating a leather trouser just like any other trouser, but the leather instantly elevates the outfit.

“It’s got that sheen to it, it’s got that texture to it that every outfit is screaming for,” Daylan said.

She also loves the richness that a leather jack brings to a basic tee-and-jeans look. It instantly elevates and makes even the simplest outfit chic.

“If you would naturally reach for it in a jean or in a corduroy jacket or something, you can reach for it in leather,” she explained.

Bold Sneakers

Colorful sneakers are still all over. Daylan suggested pairing them with a classic outfit for just a pop of color. Match them to one of the pieces in your outfit, like a sweater or earrings.

“Even go for like, a yellow. These Gola sneakers are like a yellowy, kind of creamy tone. They’re still adding that pop that bring a freshness to your outfit that you might’ve missed if you were just going to go with a normal like, white sneaker,” she said.

Daylan said you can mix your metals! If you have rose gold, gold, and silver necklaces, pair them all together.

“If that does feel too scary for you, buy one that’s already mixed because this is a modern take on your jewelry,” she emphasized.
