A 39-year-old Hong Kong hiker has died after being found unconscious along a section of the MacLehose Trail on Sunday.
Police received a report at 11.03am about a man who had collapsed near Kau Keng Shan, Tuen Mun, on Section 10 of the renowned 100km (62 mile) trail.
A rescue team airlifted him to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan and attempted to resuscitate him en route.
Police said the man was declared dead at the hospital. The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
A source said the man had chronic illnesses.
The Environmental Protection Department warned earlier in the day that children, elderly residents and those with heart or respiratory illnesses should minimise physical exertion and outdoor activities due to the poor air quality amid the influence of a northeast monsoon.
