Hong Kong police have charged two hospital staff members involved in a three-minute stitching procedure on a four-year-old girl who suffered from a cardiac arrest afterwards.

A spokesman from the Hospital Authority confirmed on Saturday that the two employees of Yan Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan, who were arrested in the morning, had been suspended from their duties.

“Yan Chai Hospital will adhere to its prevailing human resources policies while handling the case. The Hospital Authority will fully cooperate with the police investigation,” the spokesman said.

The two women, aged 26 and 62, face one count of ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person. The pair will be brought to Sha Tin Court on Monday.

The maximum penalty for the offence is 10 years in jail.
