2 injured as car hits wall and goes airborne on Hong Kong road

Two people were injured after a BMW sports car, travelling in eastern Hong Kong on Sunday, crossed into the opposite lane, struck a retaining wall, bounced above another vehicle and landed back on the road.

A video clip widely circulated online shows the car travelling along the single-lane Tai Tam Road towards Shek O. Near Hing Man Estate, at 8.42am, the vehicle veered out of control and entered the opposite lane.

Subsequently, the vehicle hit a paved retaining wall with such force that it was propelled upwards, passing above another car in the opposite lane before landing back on the road.

The road surface was littered with debris from the retaining wall and parts of the car, including the bumper.

The police said the 29-year-old male driver of the BMW, surnamed Wong, reported back pain, while his 28-year-old female passenger, surnamed Leung, complained of face and neck pain.

Both were transported to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan for treatment.

The police said that the drivers of both vehicles passed on-site breath tests for alcohol. The force added that they were investigating the cause of the accident.
