NORTHERN MICHIGAN,. (WPBN/WGTU) – – Love INC. of Wexford, Missaukee, and Osceola counties has introduced cooking classes to teach how to make healthy meals out of food pantry ingredients.

With the help of a $10,000 grant from the Cadillac Area Community Foundation, there are now eight mobile cooking stations at the non-profit to teach the classes.

Love INC. staff say this time of year they receive food donations such as dried beans or rice, and oftentimes those that need food from the pantry are unsure what to cook with these items.

“When you get a bag of dried beans a lot of people kind of look at that for a minute then they look at us like ‘what am I supposed to do with this?’ So, we saw the need was there for us to be able to teach cooking classes that were geared towards the food you would get at a food pantry,” said Paul King, Love INC.

King says he hopes this also encourages families to learn how to cook and prepare meals together.

The stations are mobile, so they can host classes throughout the three counties they serve.

Anyone interested can call Love INC. to sign up for the cooking classes.
