When was Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated?
King was assassinated on April 4, 1968 while standing on a second-floor balcony outside his room at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 39. Were he alive today, King would’ve turned age 96 this month. His assassin, James Earl Ray, confessed to killing King and received a 99-year prison sentence.
Is MLK Day a federal holiday?
Yes, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on a list of federal holidays in the United States. All federal offices, which include courtrooms and social security offices, will be closed, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
