Apple has released its list of the most downloaded apps of 2024 in the U.S., and there are plenty of surprises and, well, not surprises. One of the surprises is in the most downloaded free iPhone apps category, where Chinese shopping site Temu took the top spot.
Despite its popularity, the app comes with a heavy dose of controversy. A survey this summer by e-commerce marketing company Omnisend of 4,000 people across the U.S., UK, Canada and Australia found that 94 percent of respondents don’t trust Temu. That apparently hasn’t stopped them from using it though.
Social media apps Threads and TikTok unsurprisingly came in second and third place among the top free iPhone apps. ChatGPT took fourth, with Google and Instagram coming in fifth and sixth, respectively. Following those were WhatsApp Messenger at No. 7 and CapCut (a video editor) at No. 8. And rounding out the top 10 were YouTube in ninth place and Gmail at No. 10. You can see the full list for all the other categories here.
