Along with the announcement, a brand-new trailer gave fans their first look at Joel and Ellie’s next chapter.
Set five years after the events of the first season, the seven-episode series sees the duo facing new dangers in a world that feels even more unpredictable. The trailer offers glimpses of dramatic and desolate landscapes—some of which might feel surprisingly familiar to Canadians.
Filming for Season Two largely shifted to British Columbia, with production taking place in Kamloops, Mission, Fort Langley, and Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, which was transformed to resemble a ruined Seattle. Alberta also made a cameo, with scenes filmed in Calgary, Exshaw, and along Highway 1A, where wintery backdrops were used to bring the show’s chilling tone to life.
While Alberta’s role in this season is smaller compared to the first—where over 180 locations, including Canmore and Fort Macleod, helped define the series—both provinces continue to play a part in shaping the show’s hauntingly beautiful world.
Fans will see Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey return as Joel and Ellie, with Gabriel Luna reprising his role as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. This season also introduces Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, with Catherine O’Hara joining as a guest star.
With its blend of intense storytelling and jaw-dropping scenery, The Last of Us has earned praise not just for its gripping narrative but for how it uses real-world landscapes to build its apocalyptic vision.
Season Two premieres this April on HBO and Max, and for Canadian fans, the trailer is already sparking excitement—who knows what familiar places might make an appearance?
