It happened at the junction of Station Road and Palmerston Road, in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, at about 20:30 GMT on Saturday.

The victim remained seriously injured in hospital on Monday and detectives have appealed for help to trace those responsible.

Det Supt Shaun Kane said: “Key to our work is speaking with people who witnessed any concerning or violent behaviour in the area on Saturday evening.”
