Today could be your lucky day—Chappell Roan is auctioning off the ensemble she wore to this year’s Met Gala. The look was designed using vintage materials (830+ total fabrics and pieces) sourced from eBay, and now it’s back up on the resale site (circularity in action!) and ready for bidding. The items available include custom pants, a blazer, and boots, all created by Paul Tazewell, designer and costume director of Wicked, as well as a watch and ring curated by Roan’s stylist, Genesis Webb.
Adhering to this year’s Met Gala theme, “Tailored for You,” Roan worked with Tazewell to source and upcycle the eBay items into something fittingly fabulous. The result was a patchwork ‘70s-inspired suit made of various swatches of pink fabric finished with glitter, sequins, and beads. It’s topped with a corresponding coat complete with a sweeping train trimmed in shimmering feathers. A pair of harlequin-stitched boots, featuring a platform heel rendered in glitter and laces up the front, completes the outfit.
Roan has set a precedent for experimental fashion throughout performances and red carpet appearances alike. She dressed as the Statue of Liberty for her 2024 Gov Ball appearance and channeled Joan of Arc at that year’s VMAs. The singer-songwriter has also proven her devotion to secondhand fashion in ensembles like the 1930s gown sourced from 1stDibs that she wore to see Oh Mary! on Broadway.
“As a designer, I’m drawn to pieces that already have a life,” says Tazewell, in parallel to Roan’s inclinations. “Working with vintage materials from eBay let me build something entirely new while honoring what came before. It’s not just fashion—it’s storytelling. Every detail in Chappell’s look carries history, intention, and a bit of magic.” And Roan was “beyond grateful to wear a garment that has had so many lives before me.”
The look will be available via Roan’s eBay storefront as part of the platform’s From the Collection series, which features exclusive drops from the closets of fashion’s most influential figures. In celebration of Pride Month, all proceeds will benefit the Ali Forney Center, selected by Roan for its advocacy for LGBTQ+ and at-risk youth. Now, we wait to see who will literally join the Pink Pony Club by winning this magenta number.
