Waco stylists bring Paris Fashion Week experience home

The stylists spent the week in France participating in the prestigious Paris Fashion Week

WACO, Texas — From Waco to Paris: three local hair stylists just returned from Paris Fashion Week and they’re bringing their experience back home.

This is the second time the women at My Salon & Barbershop in Waco have been invited. They’ve also participated in New York Fashion Week for three years.

“We bring back something different every time we go,” said Stylist Marybel Yepez.

Marybel Yepez, Jessica Gudino and Yamilex Farjardo worked several fashion shows at PFW including a Hair Couture event.

“Ever since I was younger, I wanted to do hair. There’s always things that can stop you. But now I’m here and never imagined I’d be in Paris for fashion week,” said Yamilex.

Just like the city, with so much fashion and history, the stylists transformed hair into art.

“It’s bringing something, their art, creativity to life,” said Marybel. “When your model comes out first you know you did a very very good job.”

“Hair couture is more like movie, drama. Big hair. We learned a lot of different techniques,” said Jessica.

For Jessica, it’s a dream come true. She graduated from Waco High School at 16 and worked hard to find her voice through her craft.

“Spanish is my first language. What impacted my life is I graduated so young and kept setting goals. I never thought who was going to listen to someone who didn’t speak English. I became an educator at a big company in Texas. I did a lot of hair shows with them and did for 20 years. Fashion week came into my life in 2021,” she said.

Signed with an agency, the stylists have worked New York Fashion Week as well for three years and will return in February 2026.

“It didn’t happen overnight. With everything hard works pays off in the end,” said Marybel. “I’ve been doing hair for 15 years and we’re in this for 5 years. It’s taken a minute. Keep on pushing and you’ll get there,” she said.

The women have been invited to Milan Fashion Week in September 2026 and are considering working in China in 2027.
