Vivo, China’s leading smartphone manufacturer, is set to increase its focus on international markets, aiming for overseas sales to constitute 70% of its revenue within two years. Bloomberg reports that Vivo’s Chief Operating Officer, Hu Baishan, shared these ambitions during an interview at the Boao Asia Forum in Hainan. Currently, more than half of Vivo’s sales are generated outside China, with expectations to reach 60% next year and approximately 70% by 2027.

At the forum, Vivo unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Vivo X200 Ultra, set to launch next month. The company also announced a virtual-reality headset prototype ready for testing in August and a new robotics research lab aimed at advancing artificial intelligence capabilities.

According to data from IndexBox, Vivo has outperformed competitors such as Apple Inc. and Huawei Technologies Co. in the Chinese market, achieving over 10% growth in shipments in 2024. Despite challenges like weak consumer confidence and a saturated market, Vivo remains optimistic about its global expansion strategy.

In India, Vivo’s largest overseas market, the company plans to emphasize high-end devices priced above $600. Meanwhile, in Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines and Indonesia, Vivo is focused on increasing sales volumes. The brand has already secured the top position in Indonesia and second place in Malaysia, as per consultancy Canalys.

Hu Baishan indicated that Vivo is not yet prepared to enter developed markets such as the US and Western Europe, where high-end gadgets and telecom operator sales dominate. However, the company may consider these markets in three to five years, leveraging innovations like VR goggles.

Despite the ongoing US-China trade tensions, Vivo remains unaffected, as it does not operate in the US and sources components from suppliers like Sony Group Corp. and MediaTek Inc.
