A voluntary recall is underway for canned tuna sold at retailers across the US for a possible Botulism contamination. Some may have been sold in parts of the Tennessee Valley.
Tri-Union Seafoods decided on the recall after they received notification from their supplier that the “easy open” pull tab can lid on the products had a manufacturing defect that may compromise the integrity of the product seal.
That could lead to the cans leaking, or worse, be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.
Customers should not to use or eat the tuna even if it does not look or smell spoiled.
US Food and Drug Administration says that the following products were sold at this retailers:
- The H-E-B label – Texas
- Trader Joe’s label – Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin
