More than a million migrants who are claiming benefits in the UK are costing an additional £3.5 billion in public spending on infrastructure and public services, according to an analysis of official figures.
The analysis of Department for Work and Pensions figures by the Centre for Migration Control (CMC) earlier this week estimated that about 1.2 million foreign nationals are claiming benefits. Research suggests that they received more than £7.5 billion in universal credit in 2023.
A separate analysis by the anti-migration think tank, handed to The Times, has calculated the additional cost incurred by the UK taxpayer for providing the necessary housing, healthcare, education, public transport and other infrastructure to cater for them.
The analysis is based on calculations published by the Office for
