All UK citizens must have a passport for international travel, and the cost of getting one has risen by 25 per cent in the last two years
Some Brits may have to cough up £222 to get a new or replacement passport when fees for the vital travel document rise next month.
All UK citizens must have a passport for international travel, and the cost of getting one has risen by 25 per cent in the last two years.
A standard adult passport, for those aged 16 and over, currently costs £88.50 when applying online, or £100 when using a paper application form.
However from April 10, these prices will jump to £94.50 and £107, respectively.

The fee for a standard child’s passport will also jump up from £57.50 to £61.50, or from £69 to £74 for a postal application, the Mirror reports.
Those opting for a Premium Service (one day) application will see prices rise from £207.50 to £222 for adults and £176.50 to £189 for children.
The new fees would help the Home Office to “continue to move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it, reducing reliance on funding from general taxation”, the government said.
It added: “The government does not make any profit from the cost of passport applications.
“The fees contribute to the cost of processing passport applications, consular support overseas, including for lost or stolen passports, and the cost of processing British citizens at UK borders.”
Currently, HM Passport Office states there was an estimated waiting time of three weeks for a passport.
However most adults renewing their passport will receive it in 10 days, according to passportwaitingtimes.co.uk – an unofficial but generally accurate source – but the waiting time will likely increase in the coming weeks as people rush to renew their passport before the new prices kick in.
Those who need to renew, replace, update or apply for a passport can do so via the Government’s website, where payment will also be taken.
Paper passport application forms can also be picked up from a local Post Office, however it takes longer to apply by post than online.
