President Trump told President Zelensky that the best way to protect Ukraine’s infrastructure was for the US to take control of its nuclear power.
The White House said Trump had moved past a previous deal that would have given American companies access to Ukraine’s oil, gas, and rare metals.
Trump’s latest designs on Ukrainian energy appear to be aimed at existing facilities. Zelensky told the Financial Times the discussion had been only about Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant, in Zaporizhzhia, which is in Russian-occupied territory, near the front line.
