Britain is on track to roll out full-fibre broadband to almost all households by 2027, the regulator has said, as it sets out plans to boost investment and competition with BT’s Openreach.
Ofcom said that 96 per cent of premises could be connected to the higher-speed network within the next two years, based upon data from the telecommunications industry, up from 69 per cent at present.
In an update of its so-called telecoms access review, which will govern the broadband industry from next year until 2031, the watchdog said it would prioritise “clarity and stability” in regulating the fibre market, rather than adopting a more onerous approach.
