German Chancellor’s adviser Jens Plotner, accompanied by his British colleague Jonathan Powell and his French counterpart Emmanuel Bonne, left for the United States. The trio is expected to meet at the White House with U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

According to the report, the visit was arranged on short notice amid Europe’s absence from talks aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

EU officials and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have repeatedly stressed that Europe must be at the negotiating table, arguing that the continent’s security is at stake.

A 30-day ceasefire was proposed by U.S. officials during negotiations with Ukraine in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11. President Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine is willing to agree to a temporary truce if Russia follows suit.
