UK economy stagnates under Rachel Reeves’s watch, GDP figures show

The UK economy grew faster than initially estimated in the first half of last year but has shown little growth since Labour took power last summer, according to data from the Office for National Statistics.

The ONS has revised its estimate for gross domestic product (GDP) growth between January and March 2024 to 0.9 per cent from 0.8 per cent. Second-quarter growth was raised to 0.5 per cent from 0.4 per cent.

The Labour government entered office last July during the third quarter of the year. The GDP estimate for the quarter was unchanged at zero. The fourth-quarter estimate was kept at growth of 0.1 per cent.

After the upward revisions, the ONS said that the UK economy expanded by 1.1 per cent over 2024,
