Britain could become an exporter of floating wind farms to the rest of the world, according to the head of the state-owned power company.
Dan McGrail, interim chief executive of GB Energy, said he was weighing investing some of his £8.3 billion budget in the technologies to boost energy generation.
Almost all of the UK’s offshore wind turbines are attached to the bed of the relatively shallow North Sea. However, companies are eyeing floating technology, in which mooring lines are attached to the sea floor, to unlock deeper waters around the world.
