If you’re seeking an alternate way to get your Christmas tree this year, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management have opened federal lands for tree cutting.

Tree permits from the Forest Service cost $8 per tree, and families can cut down a maximum of five trees.
Please keep the following regulations in mind:
- You cannot cut a tree that is taller than 20 feet or wider than 6 inches at the base.
- Leave the stump no taller than 6 inches.
- Topping off the tree or cutting the lower limbs is not permitted.
Tree cutting on federal lands is allowed until December 31st. By harvesting Christmas trees, you’re also helping to reduce the amount of fuel that could contribute to wildfires.
