A British couple, an Israeli woman and a cable car operator have died after a wire snapped and sent them crashing to the ground near Naples.
A second Israeli tourist is in a critical condition in hospital according to La Repubblica, an Italian newspaper.
The cable car crashed in stormy weather near the top of Mount Faito, a peak around 3,700ft high, just under 30 miles southeast of Naples.
Twelve foreign tourists were rescued from a second cabin not far from the departure station, with harnesses used to winch them to the ground. The president of the region, Vincenzo De Luca, said: “It could have been worse. Many lives have been saved.”
