NEW YORK (Gray Media) – President Donald Trump’s comments Tuesday on the Gaza strip are reverberating around the world. Sitting next to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the president saying the US would take over ownership of Gaza after Israeli forces left it destroyed.
The president called for resettlement of Palestinians elsewhere in the Middle East, drawing condemnation from a wide array of allies and adversaries. An overwhelming majority of members at the United Nations have been calling for peace and a two-state solution that allows Palestinians to live freely in Gaza.
Tuesday the president also signed an executive order prohibiting funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA). President Biden initially paused funding in 2024 after some members of the agency were linked to the October 7 attacks on Israel. The agency has been a key source of aid for Palestinians since Israel’s retaliation in Gaza.
Also in the executive order, President Trump once again withdrew the US from the UN Human Rights Council for being ineffective and called for a review of UNESCO for what he calls a history of anti-Israel bias.
